Pre-Algebra
6th-9th Grade
9 AM -9:55 AM
$160

The Algebra Camp will give students entering both 8th-grade math at Augusta Prep and Algebra I at the high school level a chance to brush up and solidify their skills in preparation for Algebra I. Having a solid background ensures less “catch up” in future math studies. The camp will help students get a glimpse of what skills and topics of Algebra I will explore and will work with the new TI-Nspire CAS the handheld “calculator”, used in this course. This weeklong course is a great way for students to maintain and sharpen their Math skills throughout the summer. This will enable them to have a strong Math start in their final year of Middle School. Math background is developed cumulatively and developing this continuity will result in being strong students in Math throughout the middle school as well as into their high school Math studies. Come and learn how Algebra I is applied to everyday life!

Math Test Strategies
6th-8th Grade
10 AM -10:55 AM
$160

Taking Math assessments is sometimes the most frustrating part of learning Math. Just when you think you know the concepts well; a test or exam proves otherwise. How many times have you blanked out in an exam or made silly mistakes? Many times, you do know how to get the solution; it is just hard to do it on command within a stressful environment. If some of your success in Math is hindered by this anxiety, then this is the camp for you. This camp will help you develop strategies, organization, and skills in preparing for assessments. We will find ways to retrieve Math information from your thoughts while learning and studying the material and while taking a test, or an exam. The aim is to build confidence; a critical skill when answering questions on any assessment. We will start building this confidence right when a lesson is learned and not wait to develop it right before a test. We will explore and practice solving different types of Math problems, some of which will be word problems, quantitative algebraic problems, problems requiring straight memorization of formulas, and multiple choices/short answers. These types of questions are often asked on standardized tests. We will have a series of “mock” exams to simulate the “pressure” students face when taking an assessment. This camp will be geared towards Middle School students and will contain materials taken from the Pre-algebra and Algebra courses.
