Class Descriptions

Wetland Walk
Come and explore the flora and fauna of our beautiful wetland as we take an interpretive stroll to learn about the plants and animals that call it home. Discover how scientists identify wetlands by looking at soil samples, hydrology and indicator species.

Skulls, Scat & Tracks
Ever wonder what animal left droppings or footprints in your backyard? We’ll learn to identify animal species based on their tracks and scat (droppings). Look closely at several skulls while you learn how eye socket placement and dentition help scientists to understand diet and predator/prey adaptations.

Picnic with Reptiles
Come meet our awesome scaly pals and learn what makes them different from other animals. Bring along a picnic to enjoy with your family and watch our Gopher Tortoise enjoy a snack. PLEASE NOTE: Reptiles will be viewed from a short distance and participants will not be allowed to touch them.

Egg Drop or Bust Family Competition
Experiment with different materials to create an Egg Drop Apparatus (That’s Science talk for “a container that holds an egg while you drop it”). Compete family style to see who can create the safest collaboration. We will test your invention with a real egg!

Flashlight Frog
Call Survey Join us as we walk around the wetland at night to conduct a frog call survey. We will discuss environmental factors affecting frog populations. You’ll learn about our local frog species and how to identify them by their calls. Bring a flashlight to help us search!

Nocturnal Hike & Seek
Bring your flashlight and observe the nocturnal activity at the wetland! Enjoy this unique opportunity to explore the wetland at night and search for insects, owls, bats, frogs and other wildlife. Discover the adaptations that allow these creatures to flourish at night.
