Petting Zoos and Animal Farms Around the CSRA

So the kids want to see animals, but the zoo is an hour away…what do we do? There are some local places around town that you can take the kiddos to see animals and even pet them. Check out the local spots below for animal fun around the CSRA.

Hope For Hooves

Hope for Hooves Rescue is located in North Augusta, SC. The farm has a host of animals that the owners have rescued and are rehabilitating. Your child can interact with ponies, pigs, horses, donkeys, and more! They also offer riding lessons and weekly farm encounters.

Dutch Creek Animal Farm

Dutch Creek Animal Farm is located in Appling, GA. The farm is a self-guided, hands-on experience that your kids will love. They have several stations throughout the farm. One of the favorites is the rabbit house. Kids can hold the bunnies!  In addition, they have several different animals including pigs, horses, a donkey, goats, llamas, and more. They also have a playhouse, craft station, and much more.

Eudora Farms

Eudora Farms is located in Salley, SC. It is about an hour outside of North Augusta. You can tour the farm and they also have a drive thru experience. They have camels, a giraffe, meerkats, kangaroos and more. 

Old McDonald Fish Camp

This cute restaurant is located in North Augusta, SC. Grab some some grub and let the kids wander over to the farm. They have goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks and even fish. 

 

Hickory Hill Farm

Get up close and personal with cows at Hickory Hill Milk in Edgefield, SC. You can tour the farm and learn about where milk come from. Students will be able to pet the calves, learn how cows are milked, see tractors/farm equipment and much more! Tours have a six-person minimum and each kid will take home a farm coloring book. 

Due to temperatures, farm tours are offered September – November and March – May.*

Manuel’s Blue Clay Farm

This cute farm is located outside Hammonds Ferry in North Augusta, SC. It is fenced in, but you can feed the animals through the fence. They have hens, roosters and billy goats! Sometimes they have bunnies. If you bring some quarters, you can get some feed out of the machine. Bring some fruits/veggies for the billy goats. They are on a diet…so no junk food. 

Sunny Day Farms

Sunny Day Farms is located in Louisville, GA. They have chickens, goats, sheep, and cows that you pet and feed. They also have a playground, jumping pillow and U-Pick fruits and veggies. They are open almost year round. 

Barnyard Buddies

Barnyard Buddies is located in Grovetown, GA. They offer mobile petting zoo parties, but they also host events on their farm. Be sure to follow their FB page for updates.

Cooper Ridge Farm

Cooper Ridge Farm is located in Augusta, GA. They are a non-profit farm that provides structured farm activities for children with special needs. 

Steed’s Dairy

Steed’s Dairy is located in Grovetown. They are a seasonal farm that is a local favorite. During the fall months your family can enjoy hayrides, their play area, corn pit and their massive jumping pillow. They also offer an annual corn maze. The kids can feed their animals in the barn.

SPCA Aiken

SPCA Aiken is located in Aiken SC. This indoor facility is a great place to take the kids to cuddle some furry friends. They have a kitty haven where kids can hold and pet cats. Kids also have an opportunity to volunteer. Please call the SPCA to inquire.

Equine Rescue of Aiken

Equine Rescue of Aiken is located in Aiken, SC. They are a horse sanctuary for retired horses.  You can take the kids to visit the rescue and may have the opportunity to feed the horses treats. 

Pendleton King Park

Pendleton King Park is located in Augusta, GA. They have ducks you can feed and sometimes the fish are hungry as well. Word in the moms groups is not to bring bread and that the ducks are really spoiled and may not eat. You can try bringing veggies like peas.  

Hopelands Gardens

Hopelands Gardens is located in the heart of Downtown Aiken. They have a pond where ducks frequent. You can take them to feed them and also walk the gardens as well.
