Canal Discovery Day!
A celebration of National Park Service Week with your local Heritage Area!

The 1st annual “Canal Discovery Day” is a free community event, supported by our sponsors. This is Augusta’s chance to gather in our fabulous park, and celebrate all our canal and community have to offer together! We’re planning a full day of family fun, fresh air, fishing, and food. The event will feature a full day of FREE fishing lessons by the International Game Fish Association, Reed Creek Education Center with native animals and ONLY $5 Petersburg Boat rides. Also enjoy raffles, historic house tours, live music, exhibitors, food trucks and much more. Proceeds support the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area’s recreation and education programs.”
•Music- Performance by The Augusta Junior Players, Rae’s Creek Revival, and Caleb Aiken.
•Speakers- Dayton Sherrouse, Augusta Canal Executive Director “The Canal and WWII” and many more local authors!
•$5 Petersburg Boat Rides
•Tours of Historic homes along the canal, the Ezekial Harris House and Meadow Garden!
•Fishing Clinic- The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) will offer a fishing clinic through the Passports to Fishing program for youth and their families to learn the basics of recreational fishing like tackle and knot tying as well as the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship. Everyone can then wet a line and use their new skills while trying to catch “The Big One”!
